Atari800WinPlus
January 26, 2009by Chris
Easily the best emulator for Atari 8 bit enthusiasts, Atari800WinPlus functions with the Atari 400,800,XL, and 5200 ROMs.
Atari 8bit emulation was launched by David Firth with his Atari800 emulator in 1995-1998. Development continued into 2005 by the Atari Development Team. Next, Atari800Win Plus appeared - programmed by Richard Lawrence in 1998-2004. Tomasz Szymankow continued the efforts with Atari800Win Plus from 2004 to 2005.
The emulator includes an installer with a setup utility - Atari OS ROMs are required for activation. It's just a matter of pointing the emulator the ROM files (available for download above).
You can play games over a network with the built-in Kaillera client, easily map a joystick (detected my Logitech Rumblepad 2 without a problem), take screenshots, and even make videos with this emulator.
Atari 8bit ROM images are still under copyright but they are so old that they have little if any monitory value. ROMs can be found all over the 'net.
A good help file is included with the emulator plus about 24 trainers from AlleyCat to Moonpatrol, Gyrus, and other Atari 8 bit favs.
